Learn about the neighborhood’s Swedish heritage in our Museum-led Walking Tour of Andersonville! The Walking Tour of Andersonville takes place on Thursday, Aug. 2, at noon.
The tour starts and ends at the Museum. Tour books can be found at our front desk–grab one before our Walking Tour or use them to explore Andersonville on your own!

This summer kids can travel the world without ever leaving Chicago! Campers are introduced to the food, customs, folk arts, and cultural identities of four different countries in our “Pioneer the World” day camp. Families are invited to attend our very own “World’s Fair” on the last day, where campers display their handiwork to the public.
Pioneer Camp is always packed with fun and adventure for children ages 7 to 10. Cost: $200 members, $250 non-members; extended care available until 4 p.m. for an additional $75. Call the Museum at 773.728.8111, ext. 26, to reserve your spot. Registration deadline for Session II is Friday, July 13, 2012.
Saturday, Aug. 11, 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Musicians and instructors Mary Allsopp and Paul Tyler will co-host a Scandinavian Jam at the Swedish American Museum the second Saturday of every month from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. All ages are invited to bring any instrument, regardless of level. Please join the Museum for a guided tour of our permanent exhibit, A Dream of America: Swedish Immigration to Chicago, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, with Museum curator Veronica Robinson. To learn more about the permanent exhibit, please click here.

Tuesday Aug. 21, 2012, 8 p.m.
A play about a Swedish immigrant family in the early 1900. Written by Museum member Steve Peterson and directed by Rachel Edwards Harvith. The play is at Raven Theatre, 6157 N. Clark Street, Aug. 20-22, at 8 p.m.
Raven’s Workshop Series provides the company with the opportunity to experiment with new plays, offering a valuable laboratory for new voices of the American stage, and opportunities for emerging artists. Each “pay-what-you-can” performance will be followed by a moderated discussion with the playwright, director and cast.
Join Museum members and friends for the Tuesday performance and discussion on Aug. 21, 8 p.m.

“Google for Genealogists”
On Saturday, Aug. 25, the Nordic Family Genealogy Center will host a special lecture and research session with Thomas MacEntee, nationally-known genealogy author, educator, and speaker. He will present on using Google search engine when conducting genealogy research.
Mr. MacEntee is a professional genealogist specializing in the use of technology and social media to improve genealogy research. He has reported that most genealogists only use 10% or less of the resources behind Google when it comes to research. Learn how to use the other 90%!
Registration for this event takes place at 10:15 am, and the program will start at 10:30 a.m. Free to Museum and Nordic Family Genealogy members, $10 for non-members.

Located on Millennium Park’s Promenade North, the Family Fun Festival Tent from Monday, Aug. 20 through Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012 brings music, crafts, games, and fun to families. Come celebrate Swedish traditions with us throughout the week from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
