Please join the Museum for a guided tour of our permanent exhibit, A Dream of America: Swedish Immigration to Chicago, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, with Museum curator Veronica Robinson. To learn more about the permanent exhibit, please click here.
It is an exciting tour, and a perfect combination of entertainment and education. Cost for the tour is $4 adults, $3 seniors and students, and Museum members are free. Reservations are recommended. Please call 773.728.8111 or e-mail Museum@samac.org to reserve your spot.
“Connections Across the Pond”
On Saturday, Jan. 22, Museum members will speak about how they found new relatives within Sweden and the United States at this genealogy session held by the Nordic Family Genealogy Center.

Conversation/Advanced is for students who have the skills in Intermediate mastered and want to practice the Swedish language. The course will focus on advanced conversation, discussions, reading, and comparisons of Swedish and American culture and traditions. Classes will be held in Swedish. Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 8:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. starting January 19, 2011.
The Intermediate & Conversation/Advanced courses will include eighteen 75 minute lessons, classes run eighteen weeks. The instructor is Anna Albinsson-Kaplan. Tuition is $190 for Museum members, $225 for non-Museum members. Books are not included in tuition. Please enclose a check with the application or pay online.

Intermediate is for students who have working knowledge of Swedish, including elementary conversation and reading. The course will cover advanced grammar, vocabulary and conversation. The classes will be held in Swedish and English. Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. starting January 19, 2011.

Beginners II is for students who have some knowledge of basic grammar and vocabulary, with an emphasis on vocabulary, grammar and spoken Swedish. Classes will be held in English. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. starting January 18, 2011.
The Beginners I & Beginners II courses will include fifteen 90 minute lessons, classes run fifteen weeks. The instructor is Eva May. Tuition is $190 for Museum members, $225 for non-Museum members. Books are not included in tuition. Please enclose a check with the application or pay online.

The Swedish American Museum would like to thank everyone who attended the many Lucia celebrations in Chicago. We are looking forward to next year’s Lucia events, which will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011. We hope to see you there as well!
The Swedish American Museum is just one of many cultural organizations part of the Polish Museum of America’s special exhibit titled Christmas and Holiday Traditions from Around the World.
The exhibit opened Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 and features displays from the Swedish American Museum as well as the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture, the Bronzeville Historical Society, Chicago Japanese American Historical Society, the DANK House German Cultural Center, the Filipino American Historical Society of America, the Polish Museum of America and the Ukrainian National Musuem. Christmas and Holiday Traditions from Around the World closes Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011.

Morning Session: 10 a.m. to noon, Dalsland Connections
On Saturday, Dec. 18, the Nordic Family Genealogy Center will host a genealogy session centering on one of the Museum’s current exhibits, Dalsland goes West. Participants of this session will view the exhibit and listen to two Museum members discuss their Dalsland connections. Treats will be provided.

Family Night at the Museum is a fun evening of games and crafts surrounding our new art exhibit. On Friday, Jan. 21 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., we will be celebrating Bladholm 5: A Family of Artists. This is a free event, and snacks will be provided.
