The Nordic Family Genealogy Center will be holding a Swedish Research Day on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., where representatives of SwedGen Tour 2011 will be present: four experienced genealogists from Sweden and three representatives from Lantmäteriet, the Swedish mapping center. The SwedGen Tour 2011 group is touring the United States to teach Swedish-Americans how to find their roots and to do Swedish research.
The Swedish Research Day will include presentations and demonstrations on how to use the various resources for Swedish genealogical and historical research. There will be presentations on Swedish genealogical resources, both CD and online; tips on how to research in the Swedish church books; tax registers and probate records; and how to find Swedish historical maps.

Attendees will have the chance to enter drawings to win an Ancestry World Deluxe Membership and other exciting prizes. The Swedish Research Day will be a great opportunity to get assistance with your Swedish research and discover your Swedish heritage!
Cost: $20 members, $25 non-members. Coffee will be available, as well as a 90 minute lunch break. Registration is required for this event.

Celebrate Midsummer at the Museum with traditional Swedish dancing around the Maypole and Swedish music during Andersonville’s annual street festival along Clark Street on June 11 and June 12, 2011.

All ages are invited to the Viking Breakfast with Frey the Viking on Saturday, June 4,2011. This event features Swedish pancakes, crafts, games, friends and more at this breakfast!
For your convenience, families with children are invited to join us at 9 a.m., and adults are invited to join us anytime between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. for open seating at the breakfast.

There is still time to register for Summer Swedish Language Classes at the Swedish American Museum! Learn something new this summer, like a language, history, culture and more. Beginners I and Beginners II classes are offered this summer for those who are not familiar with the Swedish language or need a refresher.

“Tour of North Park University Archives”
On Saturday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. the Nordic Family Genealogy Center will tour the North Park University Archives at North Park University in Chicago. Participants will meet at Brandel Library on campus, located at 5114 N. Christiana Ave. The archives are located in the basement of Brandel Library, and Ann Jenner will conduct the tour. Parking in any lot is permissible on weekends without a sticker or pass. The largest parking lot is on Foster and Kedzie, and the closest parking to the Library is street parking on Christiana Avenue (north of Foster Avenue).

The Swedish American Museum is offering evening Swedish Classes this summer with two levels: Beginners I and Beginners II. The Beg. I & Beg. II courses will include eight 1.5 hour classes with classes running for 8 weeks. The instructor is Eva May.
Beginners II classes begin Tuesday, June 7 from 8 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.:
