Hejsan–Children’s After-School Program

The Fall 2011 theme for Hejsan is children’s book characters, and on Thursday, Sept. 15, we will learn about Super Grandpa from the book Super Grandpa by Davis Schwartz!

The after-school program is designed for children ages 5 to 10, where they learn about particular topics in Swedish-American culture and make themed crafts.  Younger children are welcome under the supervision of an adult.  Cost: $1 per child. Reservations recommended.

Talking About “Public Safety, Public Spaces” Dialogue

Join the Swedish American Museum and the Arab American Action Network as we discuss how communities use public spaces, what make people feel safe and also, how we can make public spaces safer in Chicago. Come to add your voice to this unique conversation at this dialogue taking place at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St. in Chicago.

Refreshments will be served.  This is a free event, and registration is required.  Registered participators are entitled to two free passes to Brookfield Zoo!  Max amount of participators is 30 people.

Please join the Museum for a guided tour of our permanent exhibit, A Dream of America: Swedish Immigration to Chicago, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, with Museum curator Veronica Robinson.  To learn more about the permanent exhibit, please click here.

RESCHEDULED: Mulle’s Outdoor Andersonville Adventure

Due to unforeseen circumstances, this event has been rescheduled to Sunday, Oct. 16, from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

All ages are welcome for this family event to help remind children to enjoy and appreciate nature and outdoor life, through the eyes of the Swedish character Mulle! Participants can make an eco-friendly craft and enjoy an urban nature walk.
