Disco Ball was held on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at the Michigan Shores Club in Wilmette, Ill. We had a great time celebrating the Museum, our heritage, and honoring Dr. Gunnar Andersson, and hope our guests did too!

author Richard Lindberg’s latest book, The Whiskey Breakfast: My Swedish Family, My American Life, on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Lindberg is a well-known speaker, historian and the author of 15 books about Chicago history.

Swedish Tenor Mats Carlsson will perform selections of Jussi Bjorling’s music as part of the “Made in Sweden” tour on Friday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m. in Anderson Chapel, at North Park University in Chicago. ”Made in Sweden” centers on celebrating the centennial of Jussi Bjorling’s birth and presents some of the greatest performers of the classical Swedish singing tradition, including Birgit Nilsson and others along with Jussi.

“Fika and Holiday Presentation”
On Saturday, Dec. 17, we will have fika (snacks) to share and a special holiday presentation at this genealogy session held by the Nordic Family Genealogy Center.
Kris Nicholson will present a light-hearted view of ”Christmas Celebrations in the Emigrant Community: What was brought into the New Country.” Kris was born in Sweden and is active in both the Swedish and American communities. She is a board member of the Swedish American Museum and a member of the Genealogy Advisory Board. Bring your appetite and hear Kris’ presentation!

The Fall 2011 theme for Hejsan is children’s book characters, and on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, we will learn about “Stefan” from Pancake Dreams by Ingmarie Ahvander!
The after-school program is designed for children ages 5 to 10, where they learn about particular topics in Swedish-American culture and make themed crafts. Younger children are welcome under the supervision of an adult. Cost: $1 per child. Reservations recommended.
“Troll” (from The Little Troll by Thomas Berger and Ronald Heuninck)
The Fall 2011 theme for Hejsan is children’s book characters, and on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, we will learn about “Troll” from The Little Troll by Thomas Berger and Ronald Heuninck!
The after-school program is designed for children ages 5 to 10, where they learn about particular topics in Swedish-American culture and make themed crafts. Younger children are welcome under the supervision of an adult. Cost: $1 per child. Reservations recommended.
“Emil” (from Emil series by Astrid Lindgren)

The Swedish American Museum will hold its annual ball, Disco Ball, on
Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at the Michigan Shores Club in Wilmette, Ill. We are looking forward to an exciting night of dancing, celebrating our heritage, and honoring long-time Museum member Dr. Gunnar Andersson, M.D., PhD.!
