Pippi is back and hungry for pancakes! Join Pippi Longstocking, a popular Swedish character, for Swedish pancakes, crafts, singing and dancing this Saturday, March 10, at 9 a.m. This is a unique opportunity to meet Pippi and learn how to make pancakes Pippi-style! All ages are welcome!

On Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 the new exhibition Considering Flowers opened at the Museum. Considering Flowers displays a collection of watercolor floral paintings by Swedish-American artist, historian and gardener Karen Vaughn Harding of Rockford. Exhibit closes March 11, 2012! Always wanted to learn how to dance or take your dancing to the next level? If you can walk, you can learn to dance! The Swedish American Museum will host three Scandinavian dance classes with instructors Linda Westergren-Muhr and Paul Muhr three Fridays in March from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Emphasis will be on basic dance techniques, one step at a time. Beginners learn how to recognize music, connect with your partner, lead and follow. For those with advanced dance abilities, classes build a strong foundation to develop additional dance skills and improve technique. The Hambo, considered Sweden’s National Dance, will be on the last class on Friday, March 30.
Attendance at each class not required but highly recommended. Cost per class: $10 members, $15 non-members. Save and pay for all 3 classes! Cost: $20 members, $30 for non-members. On Friday, March 23 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. the Museum will host Family Night in celebration of its new exhibit Images of Sweden: From the Artist’s Brush and the Photographer’s Lens. Family Night is a free event with crafts and snacks for the whole family.

The Children’s Museum is hosting a family birthday party to celebrate its 10th Anniversary on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012. Children will be able to play in the Children’s Museum while adults enjoy an auction, raffle, and more in our main floor gallery. There will be entertainment and fun for the whole family! Cost: $25 for adults, children are free.

On Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 the Museum will host a wellness practices and techniques session with yoga instructor Jackie Penner-Lourdes. Learn basic yoga, massage, trigger point and mediation techniques to relieve and manage aches, pains and stress in the New Year! This is a great way to be happy and healthy in a cultural environment.
