On the weekend of July 27 to 29, 2012, the Museum will participate in Andersonville’s annual Sidewalk Sale, where neighborhood stores line the sidewalks of Clark Street offering special sales. The Museum will have both highly discounted items from the store as well as collectibles, knickknacks and jewelry from the annual Tantalizing Treasures Sale. The 33st Annual Scandinavian Day Festival again takes place in Vasa Park, South Elgin, Ill. Call the Scandinavian Day Hotline at 847.695.6720 or visit www.scandinaviandayil.com for more information. The Museum will participate in the festivities and have many items available from the Museum Store.
Andersonville’s Farmer’s Market runs every Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. starting on Wednesday, June 13 and then from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Local and regional vendors set up shop on Berwyn Avenue in between Clark Street and Ashland Avenue to sell fresh and specialty products.
On Wednesday, Sept. 19, stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables and lingonberries as well! Stop by the Farmer’s Market and pay a visit to the Swedish American Museum booth. We will have a great variety of Swedish food and cooking related items for sale, rain or shine.

Please join us in a public tribute to Swedish diplomat and humanitarian Raoul Wallenberg on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at noon in Chicago’s Daley Plaza. There will be a flag-raising ceremony and greetings from Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Governor Pat Quinn, Honorary Consul General Ulf Anvin, and the Executive Director of the Illinois Holocaust Museum, Rick Hirschhaut. Summer songs will be sung by a Swedish Choir. Sponsors: Consulate General of Sweden, Illinois Holocaust Museum, Swedish American Museum, North Park University, SWEA, SACC, Gothenburg Sister Cities Committee, Central Swedish Committee.
The schedule for Midsommarfest 2012 in Andersonville is now available! Andersonville’s annual street festival will be held on Saturday, June 9 and Sunday, June 10, 2012. The Swedish American Museum will sponsor a Swedish Stage at Clark Street and Foster Avenue with Swedish and Swedish-American entertainment on both days. The Museum will host several concerts in the next few months, including Anders and Maria Larsson’s folk concert on Sunday, June 3, at 6 p.m. For more information about our concerts or to purchase tickets, please click here to see our online calendar.
Partner of the late Stieg Larsson, Eva Gabrielsson, will discuss her book There are Things I Want You to Know About Stieg Larsson and Me on Tuesday, June 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Swedish American Museum. This event is hosted by the Museum and Women and Children First Bookstore in Andersonville. Tickets are required. To learn more about this event and to reserve your ticket, please click here.
On Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 4 p.m. the Museum’s new exhibit Images of Sweden: From the Artist’s Brush and the Photographer’s Lens closes. The exhibit opening is free and open to the public. This is a display of photography and paintings by Rev. Tord Harlin and his wife, Gunnel, a Swedish family involved in education and fighting poverty through the Lutheran World Federation of Sweden.

On Friday, Sept. 28 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m., the Museum will host Family Night in celebration of our new exhibit, The Enduring Designs of Josef Frank. Family Night is a free event with crafts and snacks for the whole family.
The Enduring Designs of Josef Frank is a traveling exhibition of textiles and furnishings by this Austrian-born designer made famous for the Modern Style movement in Sweden. This exhibit is currently on display at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, Min. More information to come.
