The Museum Store is partnering with Majblomman to sell their Mayflower pins in support of their charity. The Mayflower Charity for Children is the largest organization in Sweden helping to fight poverty and illness of children. Since 1907, every April Swedish children participate in Mayflower activities by selling paper pins–of which revenues go back directly to their charity work.
The Museum Store will sell these paper Mayflower pins and stickers this Month. Prices range from $1.50 to $7.50, with proceeds going to the Mayflower Charity for Children in Sweden. For more information about this charity, please click here to visit their website.
Swedish-American author Lilly Setterdahl presents her popular non-fiction book, Chicago Swedes: They Spoke from the Heart, which includes 340 oral histories and 300 photos produced by her late husband, Lennart Setterdahl. In it, she discusses the many accomplishments of Swedes in the area, personal stories and pictures of growing up Swedish in the city, the struggles many Swedish immigrants and relatives of immigrants faced in their new lives in the United States and Chicago, and more.
Copies of Chicago Swedes: They Spoke from the Heart can be purchased at the Kerstin Andersson Museum Store. For questions or to purchase Setterdahl’s newest book, please e-mail Museum@samac.org or call the Museum at 773.728.8111.
