Exploring Your Swedish Roots

The Swedish American Museum Genealogy Center is presenting a full day of programming. 
Reservations are required for this event.

The day features:

  • Private one-on-one Genealogy Research Sessions (45 min) at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
    Reserve a spot for a one-on-one 45-minute personalized research experience with trained professionals (Swedish and Norwegian). A link to sign up will be sent to you once you register for this event. Please note that you can only sign up for one session.
     
  • Visit the newly designed permanent exhibit at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
    We Are America” explores Swedish immigration to Chicago on the second floor. No reservations necessary.
     
  • Genealogy noon presentation by the President of Illinois Genealogical Center, Suzanne Hoffman. In the Main Gallery.
     
  • Eat a traditional Swedish lunch at Mormors Café or sign up for the lunch served in the Café and eaten in the gallery during the noon presentation (note that you can still attend the presentation if you have not bought lunch. You can also bring other food from Mormors Café to the gallery during this presentation.
  • Learn about other Swedish groups and museums and research centers that will help you on your search including the Genealogy Center at the Swedish American Museum.
     
  • Translation assistance for Swedish family documents, letters or newspaper articles.
     
  • Shop for your favorite Swedish books and souvenirs in the Kerstin Andersson Museum Store.
     
  • Visit the Brunk Children’s Museum of Immigration popular with children and adults alike.
     
  • Free parking available in the Swedish American Museum parking lot (Ashland and Foster).
