Leaving Sweden: The Emigration Experience

Approximately 1.3 million citizens of Sweden left home between 1850 and 1930. Sweden trailed only Ireland and Norway in Europe in per capita emigration. This presentation will focus on steps taken by Swedes once they decided to emigrate.
Michael Swanson is an archivist at the University of North Dakota. Swanson provides research services and manages an extensive collection of Norwegian history publications useful for genealogical research. Swanson is also a staff member with the annual Swedish American Genealogist Workshop in Salt Lake City.
