Exploring the Swedish American Museum Digitized Collections
Over the past year, the Swedish American Museum has been embarking on a large-scale digitization project, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Entitled “Digitizing the Swedish-American Experience in Chicago”, this project has resulted in the digitization, re-housing, metadata correction, and publication of thousands of archival materials from the Swedish American Museum collection.
We invite you to join us in the Museum’s Main Gallery on Wednesday, July 8 at 6:30 p.m., during which selections of original material from the Museum’s archival collections will be available for visitors to review and enjoy, and possible share their knowledge about the people, places, and organizations that are featured in (or affiliated with) the photos. Most of the digitized material is dated between the late 1880s and the mid-1900s. If you have friends or family with Swedish-American roots in Chicago, or just want to get an exclusive “behind the scenes” look at some archival material from our Permanent Collection, please join us!
Refreshments are served from 6 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
